Abstract

The notion of Transition as a pattern to understand our present time and as the fundational myth of the democratic period, is one of the most recent debates in the spanish contemporary cultural and political context. Considering the process of Transition as the starting point for the latest democratical project in this country, the emergence on the scene of certain kind of novels related to this subject can be interpreted as the manifestation of a cultural symptom. Thus, this paper tries to question the conditions in which these novels have appeared, what are their common features and what debates are they pointinting out. Through the analysis of the literary work of a series of authors borned within the 60s and the 70s, and taking as an example the novel El jardín colgante (2012) we will try to explain, in broad terms, the conflictivity that the generational debate about the Transition implies in the contemporary Spain.
