Abstract

The purpose of this work is to compare and contrast three novels written during
the nineties (Mendicutti’s El palomo cojo, Regí s’ Luna lunera and Montero’s La
hija del caníbal) with the contemporary narratives about memory of the Spanish
Civil war and the Franquism. In these novels, we find a particular interest in
different aspects related to gender and to non-hegemonic identities. The main
hypothesis states that the novels of Mendicutti, Regí s and Montero show the
construction of abject subjects or identities together with the subversión of conventional
literary forms. These identities are openly opposed to the construction
of an I which is intellectual, civic and exemplar in contemporary literature about
memory.
