Abstract
According to the Cantar de Mio Cid, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar developed an extraordinary career as a warlord while he was exiled. However, after the conquest of Valencia and his king's pardon, the Cid nearly stopped his military campaigns and begun living as a feudal lord. This article revises the Cid's evolution along the Cantar and tries to find out its reasons.
